Florence Makes - Vintage Map Table Lamp
This beautiful handcrafted table lamp is sure to light up the home of any keen traveller, and evoke memories of favourite journeys.
Handmade from hundreds of hand formed pyramids crafted from vintage Ordnance Survey maps, this particular table lamp features maps of the South of France.
Sustainability is at the heart of each Florence Makes product and the love of the thought that something which has become a little obsolete, such as a vintage Ordnance Survey map can be crafted into something beautiful for your home and have a new, repurposed, lease of life.
The lampshade is comprised of a heat resistant plastic but we still recommend only using with a low wattage bulb. The lamp comes complete with the chrome-coloured stand pictured which is touch-sensitive and features 3 brightness settings.
To clean the outer surface of the shade simply dust using a soft cloth or feather duster.
Table lamps also available in maps from West Yorkshire, Wales, and Dorset. Please contact the gallery for photographs and availability. Florence Makes can also create bespoke lamps and lampshades from maps of your choice of location.
ABOUT THE MAKER: Florence is a Leeds based designer/maker. She originally trained in ceramics but found more joy in creating the paper test pieces. As a result she primarily works in paper, utilising old rail tickets and outdated Ordinance Survey maps. She is currently exploring the theme of repetition in the Curious Commodities Collection. The potential that repetition can bestow on an item is fascinating, the most rudimentary of objects can evolve into something grandiose, something which far exceeds its previous status. It transforms the insignificant and the overlooked.
