Karen Howarth Ceramic Vessels
Inspired by natural landscapes, Karen Howarth's ceramic vessels look beautiful holding individual flower stems and dried grasses, or just on their own to brighten up a shelf.
Handmade by Karen in her West Yorkshire studio, these vessel forms have been hand thrown on the potters wheel using red terracotta clay. Layers of colour, scored lines and two different glazes are carefully applied to create the rich painterly surface which is unique to each piece. The pieces are reminiscent of landscapes and the scenes varies subtly from each viewpoint.
Each vessel has a glazed interior making it water-safe, so can be used as a unique vase to hold a small bunch of flowers. The exterior is part glazed and part unglazed and is not suitable for use in the dishwasher - careful handwash only with just water.

Since completing an MA at the Royal College of Art in London in 1996, Ruth has divided her time between teaching, raising a family and continuing to make. Currently working from a purpose built studio in the garden, Karen's work is inspired by her love of nature and the outdoors; the lines and patterns within the landscape, the texture of grasses against a stormy grey sky, the subtle variation in colour of a vast open seascape.
