Karen Atherley Ceramics

These bold and joyful ceramics by Karen Atherley would certainly be a talking point at any dinner table!

With their curvy female figures inspired by Greek antiquity, and colours reminiscent of the Impressionists, Karen's ceramics bring the fun back into functional tableware.

Each piece is lovingly hand-built and decorated by using bright ceramic slips painted onto white earthenware and glazed with transparent glaze to give a lustre finish. Every surface of each of these pieces is carefully decorated with hand-painting or with floral and butterfly decals - even the under-side features elaborate designs alongside the lovely flowing strokes of Karen's signature.

The Small Frilly Face Plate has a beautifully organic scalloped edge, and a brown-eyed brunette lady gazes out from the centre of a bright orange background.

The Purple and Green Jug has a wide stylised pouring lip, which is decorated on the interior as well as outside, as well as a generous handle.

Both pieces are food-safe, but as with any handmade ceramicware they are best washed by hand and not advised for use in the dishwasher or microwave.

ABOUT THE MAKER: Karen Atherley is a ceramicist based in Lincolnshire with a career spanning nearly 40 years. She is known for her figurative nudes and unique use of colour within her contemporary functional ceramics, which Karen designs and handcrafts to bring bright and modern wares to your everyday life.
